Jim Ross goes back to day one.
In May 2019, AEW hosted their fir♕st event in comapny history, as the Double Or Nothing pay-per-view took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The show was a smash hit for the company on all fronts, but there is one specific match that still many fans still celebrate tℱo this day.
The heated brother vs. brother contest between Cody Rhodes and Dustin Rhodes is still considered to be one of the best matches in company history. As it turns out, Jim Ross believes that it's the best match that he's ever ca✅lled in AEW.
“The match that strikes me was the Rhodes boys, Dustin versus Cody. I loved that match. I’ll say it today, all these months and weeks and years later, that was the best match I ever called in AEW to date. There’s been a lot of good ones. But that match has the unique emotional element that you couldn’t get in just an angle or a storyline. They’re real brothers, and they had told a great story leading into it, and then man, they delivered like champions in the match itself. I’ll always be grateful for those two guys, Cody and Dustin, for having the match, and then I feel very blessed that I was a part of the broadcast team. That match just had so much emotion, natural emotion, stuff you can’t replicate, stuff you can’t manufacture, it was real. So that match stands out head and shoulders above just about anything else I’ve done." Ross said on the latest edition of Grilling JR.
Elsewhere in the podcast, Ross talked about his voice possibly being replicated by AI in the future. Check out his full comments here.
