Aonghus McAnally explains how he vie✱ws his role as an announcꦬer.
For wrestling announcers, it is an incredibly layered role in the world of profession⛎al wrestling and it is one that Aonghus has held in the business since the early stages of Ove♌r The Top Wrestling's growth in Ireland.
While , Aonghus discussed how he views hi🍸s role as a commentator in pro wrestling.
"My approach to it is, again, it's weird. I don't feel like I'm a wrestling commentator. I feel like I'm an actor who plays the part of a wrestling commentator. So the storytelling is always to the fore. So the most important thing about being a commentator is it can't be about getting yourself over. It has to be about the talent in the ring. So a huge part of that is knowing when to join in and progress the story. But a huge part of it is knowing when to shut up and let the guy in the ring do their end of the bargain. We don't need to be talking over them. And so what I pride myself on is helping progress those stories, get people emotionally invested. There's little tips and tricks of the trade that I'll do as I'm doing it. Because it is like a dance, I have to say. It's like having a dance partner. And the nature of the relationship in a two-man booth like that is it can't be a 50-50 thing. The play-by-play guy, that kind of lead announcer, has to be, like in ballroom dancing where the man leads, and it's a cooperation, but one person has to be leading. I think that's how it has to be in terms of a play-by-play and colour split. So you have to let the play-by-play guy drive the bus. It's a delicate dance with people it takes a time to find a rhythm with new partners but I've been lucky too. I've been going to call some amazing matches with amazing talent over the years it's uh it's as i always say look it's a dream job for me because you get the best seats in the house for the best wrestling in europe arguably anywhere in the world a lot of the time as well it's just, it's a privilege to be there just go back to being a seven-year-old again it's fantastic."
