AEW has a🐲 home in New York City and it isn'🐽t at The Garden.
On September 22, 2021, AEW taped the Grand Slam editions of🐠 Dynamite and Rampage from Arthur Ashe Stadium. This was the promotion's first event in New York City and also their firꦫst stadium show.
Appearing on , Tony Khan commꦿented on how special Grand Slam was to the company and expressed his desire to continue holding shows there. Furthermore, he notes that while Madison Square Garden used to be an appealing proposition, he likes that they're the only company to host a wrestling show in the iconic tennis venue.
"It appealed to me at one point more so than now. I think [Arthur Ashe] is one of the home's of AEW, certainly, in New York City it's the home of AEW. We have great things in the market and area and New York is a bunch of markets. The UBS [Arena], what an amazing fanbase we have in Long Island and the numbers we have done for the pre-sale are pretty amazing. I love going over to Newark, but being in New York City was fantastic and Grand Slam, in many ways, is one of the biggest success stories we've ever had. I definitely want to keep coming back to Arthur Ashe. For MSG, it's been appealing to me, but there has been a lot of wrestling there. We're the only wrestling that has ever been in Arthur Ashe. The Grand Slam is very special to AEW," Khan said.
The Grand Slam episode of Dynamite kicked off with a World Title match between Kenny Omega and Bryan Da𒈔nielson and was capped off with a Women's Championship match between Br🅺itt Baker and Ruby Soho.
Chris Jericho recently called Tony Khan a genius for running Arthur Ashe Stadium. Those comments can be found here.
