Report: Aiden English's Future Could Involve Reprising His Old Gimmick

Now that his🏅 tag partner has been released, Aiden English might be returning to his previous gimmick as a singer.

Dave Melter discussed the future of English on Wednesday's episode of , after WWE announced earlier that day that Simon Gotch, English's partner in the Vaudevillains, had been released.

Before forming the Vaudevillains team, English had a gimmicꦐk in NXT where he would sing before, during, and after his matches. According to Meltzer, the plan is for English to reprise that ch🐎aracter.

"The story is he's going to get a push but I don't know how much of a push he can get," Meltzer said.

Meltzer went on to note that the singer character "is either going to be a big hit or a big failure. I would try it. But I know it may not make it. I remember when he did it in NXT. It worked for a while but it definitely stopped working after a while."

After a stint in NXT that included a two-month reign with the tag titles there, The Vaudevillains made their main roster debut with WWE last April, on the first episode of Smackdown following WrestleMania. Gotch and English received a push for a while, winning a No. 1 contenders tournament at Payback (when Enzo Amore was concussed and the match was stopped)💯, then unsuccessfully challenging The New Day for the titles at Extreme Rules and taking part in a Fatal Four-Way for the titles at Money In The Bank. After getting sent to Smackdown in the WWE draft last summer, however, the Vaudevillains rarely got TV time and, when they did, were losing matches--oftentimes, quickly.

"I always knew when they came to the main roster it was going to be a short shelf life," Meltzer said of the Vaudevillains gimmick.

English was a fairly experienced actor before🐲 he signed with WWE, appearing in more than 20 stage productions.
