QT Marshall speaks on his experience bringing the heat and the doom for a diss track about viral TikTok star Big Boom! AJ, the♈ Costco guy.
Costco Guys, Big Boom AJ! and Bi🌊g Justice are known for three things: double-chunk chocolate cookies, chicken bakes, and bringin' the boom! They love all of that so much that they sang a song about it. The song, has spawned several remixes, sequels, and now, all totally amassing collectively over 1 million YouTube views on the father and sons' YouTube channel.
Big Boom! AJ was also a professional wrestler in a past life, and now, he will be stepping into the ring with QT Marshall at AEW Full Gear: Zero Hour. Marshall, a villainous man who doesn't even like double-chunk chocolate cookies, created a parodyꦚ of the popular viral song where he sings about bringing the "doom!"
Now, he's breaking down the experience of recording that parody song in a new interview with Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp🐼. QT credits AEW's production team member Giancarlo Dittamo with helping to put it together and called the project Giancarlo's baby.
"When we first brought him in, Giancarlo was like, ‘You know you have to make a parody of this.’ Okay. I’m not in tune with the TikTok world and social media. Every now and again, I’ll chime in, but for the most part, I stay to myself," said Marshall. "[Giancarlo] loved it. It was like his baby. It did really well and I thought it was fun. For people that were like, ‘This is worse that...’ whatever, sure, whatever you want to say. It got people talking, it got exposure, and that’s what this industry is about. Eliciting a reaction from the audience. If we’re doing that, we’re doing our job. If it translates, we’ll see."
Speaking about the reaction to the parody, Marshall says he enjoyed the opportunity to show a different side of himself, have more fun, and pay tribute t♛o the entertainment side of the wrestling business. While there will be more serious moments on the show, Marshall is more than happy to not take himself too seriously.
"For me, it shows a different side of me. ‘Oh, I didn’t know that guy can have fun.’ I always play a serious role. I get bumped around and stuff, but I play a role on a show. I’ve always been like that. I’ve never tried to go into business for myself. I’m just happy to have a job in wrestling. I don’t take it too seriously. It should be fun. There is business that has to be done and we have to be serious about that and getting in there with the trust of your co-workers, but at the end of the day, it’s a great but ridiculous job. If you can’t go out there, put yourself out there, and have fun. It’s ridiculous fun. Then, there will be serious moments on the show. There’s going to fun. A whole plethora of stuff. It’s a circus and should be a circus."
Tony Khan recently said he's learned a lot about marketing from the Costco Guys. Read his comments here.
