One of the biggest stories coming out ofš this year's SummerSlam was the reported backstage altercation between Brock Lesnar and Chris Jericho.
Jericho cleared the air when he was a guest on Chael Sonnen'sĀ show Your Welcome and spoke on the rumors that Jericho was upset of the main event finish, which was LesnarĀ busting Orton openĀ ļ·½and having the referee call off the match.
āAnytime something likeā that happens, there is always a lot of rumors, a lot of stories being told about that sort of thing," Jericho said.Ā "We did have a little bit of a brouhaha, shall we say. I think that happens when you have guys in a sport such as ours, half entertainment, half real, half not. He had just come out of the ring. I had come out of the ring. I just thought the ending of that match as very brutal and very violent. I just didnāt know if Randy was ok. I was checking on Randy, my friend. Weāve always been pretty close. I said something, he said something and then next thing you know, weāre nose to nose yelling at each other. Letās make no bones about this. Brock is trained fighter, but Iām not the type of person that would back down to anyone, to my detriment. Hotheads fire off and we were in each otherās faces. It happens sometimes. I guess I kind of have a reputation that I never back down. I think in the case of guys ošøf [Brockās] size, you think people are just going to yield, but thatās not me. Growing up where I grew up in Winnipeg and my dad used to being in the NHL. Itās not what I do. Iām glad he didnāt eat me. Basically, there was a face to face but the rest is going to be between the two of us.ā
When asked whether or not Jericho would be considered a mark for having a big reaction to the main evešnt finish, Jeriš ·cho said heĀ simply wanted to check on Orton.
āIt doesnāt make me a mark to check up on my friend, saying āwhat the hell is going on with this finish?ā" Jericho said. "I was just saying if Randy was ok. Being here, 26 years in the business, I can do whatever the fuck I want. Whatever the finish is, itās not my business. Whatever they do, whatever happens, itās not my business. Itās not my responsibility to call, but when I see a friend of mine lying in a pool of blood, whether itās a work or not, thatās real blood. Thatās a real concussion. Weāve had a 15 year history. Thatās one of the guys Iāve been in the trenches with and willĀ continue to be in the trenches with until the day that one of us, stops doing this. I donāt think ą·“there is anything wrong with checking on your friend, whether itās a work or not. If that makes me a mark, then I guess Iām a mark for making sure that my friend is okay.ā
