While , Wright commented on being signed by WCW at the age of 1ཧ8 and the process that went behind it.

"I was invited to Schreinermakers Live, a top talk show at the time, similar to Markus Land's today. It wasn't just political, it covered all kinds of topics and had a million of viewers. That was actually my second time on the show. The first time I was 16, the second, nearly 18. WCW was also there, represented by Johnny B Bad and Sting. As the topic was wrestling, I got to talk with them backstage and met their PR manager, who invited me to Munich since WCW was touring in Germany at the time. I thought it was an amazing opportunity. My dad, being an old pro in the business, told me, son, you never know what'll happen, take your wrestling gear with you. just in case. So I did. My father had always taught me respect for the trainers, veterans, colleagues, promoters, and, of course, the fans because, without them, there's no show and no money. He also taught me to respect family values, naturally. So I followed his advice. We went backstage, and the first thing I was asked was if I had my gear because a WCW wrestler was injured. Naturally, I jumped at the chance. My first match was against Paul Romer, and it went very well. Ric Flair was the booker at the time, and they asked if I wanted to finish the tour with them. I couldn't say no. Yes, chance of a lifetime, for sure. Absolutely. At the end of the tour, Ric Flair called me to his hotel room, and surprisingly, Eric Bischoff was there too. They offered me a contract. I had a week to decide, which was difficult because, at 18, I was still underage in the US, had a contract with a big league in Europe, and was already engaged. After talking with the CWA, they agreed to let me out of the contract, not wanting to stand in my way. I am grateful for that to this day. I also sorted out things with my fiancée. Within a week, I packed up and moved to the US on my own."
