Coming off of the canceled fight at UFC 209, lđŻightweight contender Tony Ferguson is ready for his next Octagon challenge. If the fighter gets his way, that next challenâge would come in the form of Nate Diaz.
âIâm just throwing a name out there, but I think Nate Diaz and myself could actually put on a good show,â he said on . âI think his ranking is kind of bullshit too, but I donât really see anybody else. I mean, Edson Barboza called me out, but it is what it is. Everythingâs in the air right now. I want to fight for the title. I want a fair fight, I want to go in there and kick this dudeâs ass no matter whoâs signed to the dotted line, and fucking move on. And kick Conorâs ass. I donât know what heâs up to, but lets just go.â
Ferguson hasnât competed since defeating former UFC Lightweight Champion Rafael Dos Anjos at UFC Fight Night 98. Besides a potential bout with Diaz, the lightweight đĄfighter doesn't seem keen on the the idea of fighting Edson Barboza again.
âFor an opponent, letâs just say I want to fight Edson Barboza again, letâs just say something like that, what is that going to do for me?â he said. âAbsolutely nothing. Michael Johnson, possibly. Possibly. But Iâm not going that far down the rankings. The purpose is I worked my ass off. I need to do something about that belt. Lets get that belt and keep moving up these ranks.â
Diaz has been asking for big deal fights, and a bout with Ferguson could be just that.
