Rashad Evans Talks Move To Middleweight Division

MMA

UFC 205 is arguably the biggest card in UFC history and featuresĀ former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion RašŸ’–shad Evans making his middleweight division debut againš“†‰st Tim Kennedy.

Evans recently appearedš“ƒ² on and he talked about his decision to drop down to šŸŒŠthe middleweight division.

Max Holloway & What The Future Holds For The BMF Champion

ā€œDropping to 185 is the best thing for me because for the first time Iā€™ve got to really make sure Iā€™m doing everything correctly as far as taking care of my weight. Iā€™ve been flirting around with the idea for years now. I never was the biggest light heavyweight. Iā€™d come in maybe five or 10 pounds (over the 205-pound limit) at the most on fight week. Meanwhile my competition was coming in 15, 20 pounds heavy. So they were cutting a lot more. When youā€™re in thš“ƒ²ere and youā€™re going, you donā€™t really feel it. But at the same time, I donā€™t have that, ā€˜Get over here, Iā€™m going to slam this mother(expletive)ā€™ strength. Thatā€™s what I was missing, and I feel it had a lot to do with just the weight and how strong I was and my size for that weight class. I had to really make a change and just having new competition, having to feel like the new kid on the block and have to earn my way through another division and pretty much just reinvent myself was my motivation to really want to do it,ā€ said Evans.

In the veryšŸ’œ same išŸ¤Ŗnterview, Evans also talked about fighting Tim Kennedy, as the two used to be teammates a few years back.

ā€œI remember his whole style, I remember his rhythm, and Iā€™m glad I had it, but he also remembers me. And thatā€™s pretty much what this fightā€™s going to break down too. Who has gotten better in the areas when we were apart? When we were going together, he was more or less a training partner. So for him, I donā€™t think he was giving it his all like if it was him going through camp. Heā€™s trying to lightly talk (expletive) to me, saying, ā€˜Oh Rashad, he asked for me.ā€™ Dude, weā€™re in the fight business. This is what we došŸ…·. This is how we eat. I love to fight. I donā€™t choose it because I hate it. I love to fight. If the UFC comes to me and says they want me to fight such and such, if heā€™s not a really close friend and mine and weā€™re not teammates, then yeah, Iā€™m going to fight you. This is what we do. We fight. Iā€™m sorry. This is just the business. It doesnā€™t mean I donā€™t respect you,ā€ Evans said.

UFC 205 will be taking place on Saturday, November 12 from Madison SqušŸŽ‰are Garden in New York, New York with Eddie Alvarez and Conor McGregor headlining.
