UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor defeated Eddie Alvarez to win the belt in the main event of UFC 205.
McGregor hasn't competed since winning the title and Alvarez has a theory🐷 as to why the promotion has yet to strip him of the title.
“What’s going on is that this fight (Ferguson vs. Nurmagomedov) is 0 for 3. They’re not going to strip Conor of a belt and then have a vacant title for a fight that’s 0 for 3,” Alvarez said on .
Tony Ferguson is the UFC Interim Lightweight Champion and he faces Khabi♐b Nurmagomedov for the undisputed title at UFC 223.
If the UFC does wi𒆙nd up stripping McGregor of the gold, a confident Alvarez doesn’t think it would happen until the UFC 223 weigh-ins.
“So I think the day of the weigh-ins, they’re going to strip (McGregor), it’s going to make real big news. And then they’re going to have a title fight, and that’s also going to make big news. So it’s going to make for a lot of publicity in one day,” says Alvarez.
UFC 223 takes place on Saturday, April 7 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a po🎐st-show podcast to folꦰlow.
