Coach Kavanagh Says McGregor vs. Ferguson Makes Sense

UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor hasn’t fought inside the Octagon since he defeated Eddie Alvarez to win the UFC Lightweight Title at UFC 205.

John Kavanagh is the longtime coach of McGregor and he believes the Irishman versus UFC Interim Lightweight Cha𓆏mpion Tony Ferguson makes sense.

“To me, that fight (McGregor vs. Georges St. Pierre) makes no sense,” Kavanagh told . “He’s fighting at 185. He was a big 170er, but to me athletically it doesn’t make any sense. Tony Ferguson is the fight that makes sense at lightweight. I think that lightweight is Conor’s ideal weight class, so Tony is the fight that seems right at the moment.”

Ferguson claimed the UFC Interim Lightweight Title when he submitted Kevin Lee in the main event of UFC 216.

Kavanagh also believes𓂃 that no matter whoꩲ McGregor faces next, it is going to be a huge drawing fight because he is in it.

“It doesn’t really matter how much Tony draws or doesn’t draw, look at the guy he’s facing. You could put Conor in there against anyone at the moment and people are going to want to watch it,” says Kavanagh.

McGregor recently stated that before he returns to action in the UFC, the promotion is going🅰 to have to name him as a co-promoter.
