Nia Jax reflects on a briefly teased program between hﷺerself and Jon Moxley, the former Dean ✤Ambrose.
Nia Jax ente🐼red the men's Royal Rumble back in 2019 and the night after, she attacked Dean Ambrose from behind just as Ambrose was looking to leave WWE and restart his career as Jon Moxley.
Briefly, matches between Ambrose and Nia Jax were advertised before quickly being scrapped. Speaking with Renee Paquette, who happens to be Jon Moxley’s wife, Nia Jax explained what was briefly penciled in for the two of them and why neither one of them was co🦹mfortable wi🍰th the story.
"He had already — I think he said he wasn't going to re-sign," Nia began. "I remember getting the script and was like, 'Am I going to start wrestling the guys?' 'Yeah, we think this is kind of cool.' 'Hmm, I don't know.' I go to Dean [Moxley] and was like, 'I don't feel comfortable with this. How are you?' He's like, 'Whatever, they're just trying to fucking get me.' 'I don't want to hit you.' I just thought that I shouldn't be able to hit someone and they don't get to hit me back. I thought it was so weird. I know Jon didn't feel comfortable. 'I don't want to hit you.' They had advertised us on a live event having a match and I was like, 'what the heck is going on here? Are we doing this?' At first, I thought it was cool to do intergender matches, and would be super cool if we could go that route. If anybody who is amazing and has an incredible resume, it's Jon, but I was like, 'Does he want to do this?' I don't know what happened. Somebody said the state we were supposed to be working in didn't allow intergender matches or some crap. Then, it just went away," Nia Jax recalled.
Jon Moxley would leave WWE and resurface in AEW later that year. This year, his name has come up in promos between Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns. Neither Roman nor Seth see an issue with this as they both do not want to hide from their history in The Shield. Learn more here.
Nia Jax is one of only two women, along with Beth Phoenix, to have competed in the men's and women's Royal Rumble match. This year, WWE tried to bring her back for the women's Royal Rumble less than three months after letting her go. Nia Jax emphatically declined the offer. Learn more about that here.
