Tyrus told his story.
Tyrus lost the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship at NWA 75 when he was pinned by EC3 in the main event of the show. Along with losing the match, Tyrus was forced tš¦©o retirše per the stipulation of the bout.
Speaking to , NWA Owner Billy Corgan tried to explain the story Tyrus was trying to tell in the matchą¶£.
āTyrus, heās the champ versus EC3. Their history, of course, even going back to TNA but even further back to WWE developmental,ā Corgan said. āSometimes when you put people in a ring who are very tight as people, theyāre going to tell a very different story because the heart is there and thereās real love and deep affection between the two men and they wanted to go out and tell a good story. Tyrus wanted to tell a story where he went out in his shield and he did for people that complain that it wasnāt a five-star Meltzer jerk-off match, right? To me, it told a very compelling story."
Tyrus' run as champion was criticized by fans for many reasons, oą¹ne of which being his in-ring ability.
In praising the storytelling of Tyrus vs. EC3 and the night one main event between Kamille and Natalia Markova, Corgan stated, āWeāre not wrestling to impress anybody. We do professional wrestling in a way that has gotten lost over the last few years, and Iām not the one running around saying that everybody should be wrestling the way weāre wrestling. All Iām saying is this is the way weāre going to wrestle. Weāre going to wrestle in a somewhat traditional frame and that doesnāt mean āthrowback.ā That means those people wrestled for 100 years for a reason in certain ways because it drew money and it drew the general public in because the public appreciated the storytelling, and if people wanna go back and look at Dusty versus somebody in a match in 1976 youāll see all those matches were not match classics, but they told good stories and they drew big houses. āSo, Iām of the belief very publicly that the NWA will become the best proponent at telling those stories again without being driven by the trendiness of the public, telling us who we have to be every five seconds and us worrying every five seconds what the public thinks weāre a professional wrestling company. Itās a rugged physical business and weāre going to present it that way. And as far as Iām concerned, if itās not for the faint-hearted or you want a zillion high spots, thereās, thereās great competition out there thatās worth watching.ā
EC3 remains the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion and he will defend the title against Thom Latiāmer atšŖ NWA Samhain.
While making the media rounds, Corgan told Busted Open Radio that NWA signed two TV deals. You can read his full comments by clicking here.
