FRANKIE “THE ANSWER” EDGAR NAMED TO UFC HALL OF FAME CLASS OF 2024
"Las Vegas – UFC today announced that former UFC lightweight champion Frankie 'The Answer' Edgar will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame’s ‘Modern Wing’ as a member of the Class of 2024.
The 2024 UFC Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place this summer in Las Vegas and will be streamed live on UFC FIGHT PASS.
'Frankie Edgar is one of the greatest athletes in UFC history,” UFC CEO Dana White said. “Frankie had an amazing career and consistently fought the best athletes in the world across multiple weight classes for more than 15 years. He is a legend, and it will be an honor to induct him into the UFC Hall of Fame as part of International Fight Week this summer.'
Edgar will enter the UFC Hall of Fame as a member of the Modern Wing, joining others in this distinguished category, including Forrest Griffin (2013), BJ Penn (2015), Urijah Faber (2017), Ronda Rousey (2018), Michael Bisping (2019), Rashad Evans (2019), Georges St-Pierre (2020), Khabib Nurmagomedov (2022), Daniel Cormier (2022), Jose Aldo (2023) and Donald Cerrone (2023).
The “Modern Era” category includes athletes who turned pro on or after November 17, 2000 (when the first UFC event under the unified rules of MMA was held), are a minimum age of 35, or who have been retired for one year or more.
A veteran of 35 fights during his 17-year professional MMA career, Edgar compiled a record of 23-11-1, securing victories over UFC Hall of Famers BJ Penn, Urijah Faber, and Cub Swanson (Fight Wing), as well as notching wins against former WEC lightweight champion Hermes Franca, and former UFC lightweight champions Sean Sherk, Charles Oliveira, and Yair Rodriguez (interim)."
Frankie Edgar Career Accolades
Edgar made his professional MMA debut ♛in 2005, where he competed in multiple independent pro🌄motions, before making his UFC debut in February, 2007. Edgar would compile a 6-1 record in the UFC before earning his first shot, where he'd outlast Hall of Famer, BJ Penn en-route to a unanimous decision to capture the lightweight title. 'The Answer' would defend the title twice before ultimately dropping it to Benson Henderson.
The newly minted Hall of Famer would find success in the UFC's featherweight division, collecting victories over the likes of Charles Oliveira, Cub Swanson, Urijah Faber, and Chad Mendes. Unfortunately for Edgar, he'd come up short in his bid for 135-pound gold and losing seven out of his final nine bouts. Howeverဣ, the pride of Toms River, New Jersey would go out on his sheild as only he can, as those final seven defeats came against Brian Ortega, Max Holloway, 'The Korean Zombie,' Cory Sandhagen, 'Chito' Vera, and Chris Gutierrez, which ended up being his final fight at UFC 281 in froဣnt of his New York (and New Jersey) fans at the famous Madison Square Garden arena in New York.
